11-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured In Explosion

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- An 11-year-old girl was badly injured in her hands and face in an explosion incident at the Pudu Raya bus terminal here Friday night.

City acting police chief SAC I Zulhasnan Najib Baharuddin said in the 9pm incident, Atykah Nadiah Zamzar was believed to have tried to lift a plastic bag left on a seat beside where she was seating when it suddenly exploded.

"The blast caused both her hands and her face to be badly burnt while a large portion of her hair was singed," he told reporters at the scene.

Atykah Nadiah was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

When the incident happened, Atykah was with an aunt waiting for a bus at Platform 7 of the terminal for a journey south.

Zulhasnan said initial investigations found the bag to have contained a tin of glue and a motorcycle battery that were tied to an empty mineral water bottle.

However, the incident did not disrupt bus services at the terminal, the city's biggest bus hub.
